Catamount is a state-of-the-art professional recording studio located in Cedar Falls, Iowa. We specialize in album production with over 500 releases to date. Catamount began in 1975 on College Hill as a private studio for prominent Midwestern rock band Headstone. It opened to the public in 1980 and remained in that location until 2002, when the current multi-room facility was built in the Cedar Falls Industrial Park.
DESIGN INSPIRATION
Catamount Studios was designed by Carl Yanchar of Wave~Space, Los Angeles. Carl’s clients include many legendary recording studios such as The Plant, Mad Hatter, Capitol Recording Studios, CBS Studios, and Lionshare.

As a long time producer, I have seen more than my fair share of struggles in the music industry. One of them being, not having access to a top-level engineer or producer. It can be so difficult to get your music to sound polished and professional without the right team behind you. So many bands I know have struggled with getting their recordings to sound good. It’s heartbreaking to pour your heart and soul into a song, only for it to sound like garbage when it’s finally released.
As an artist, you know, the struggle is real. There are many things working against you. Trying to make a name for yourself in the music industry is no easy feat. One of the biggest struggles for me is working with bands that haven’t put out too many records and lack experience. It can be frustrating trying to guide them through the recording process and help them find their sound.
But even after the record is made, the work doesn’t stop there. I often find myself dealing with bands that need more guidance on how to promote themselves correctly, book shows, and navigate the ever-changing music landscape.
But despite all the challenges, I wouldn’t trade being in the music industry for anything. The passion for creating music and connecting with listeners is what drives me everyday to help artists in any way that I can!
